We’ve had our radar out for unexpected collaborations since our ‘Artists Relations’ story in our recent March issue. So we were more than pleased to discover that one of our favourite bakeries, Konditor & Cook, has teamed up with five British design talents to bring out a limited edition collection of their signature mini-cakes. Each creative, ranging from architecture to interior design, has produced three unique designs out of decorative icing, and each work will be exclusively sold in Konditor & Cook’s five locations in London for a limited period of two months.

The series kicks off this month with cakes adorned with delicate posies, courtesy of acclaimed florist, Paula Pryke. For June and July, music veteran Badly Drawn Boy has created a trio of luck-inspired designs, such as jackpot cherries, a lucky horseshoe and even a four-leaf clover. Wallpaper alumnus, Suzy Hoodless keeps us sorted for August and September with her graphic sketches of minimalist furniture pieces in a muted, modern palette. And even Celia Birtwell has successfully translated her naïve prints in tartan coloured icing to keep us sugared up through October and November.

It comes as no surprise though, that our favourites of the collection are Jamie Fobert’s three creations for December-January. Inspired by the work of iconic sculptor Barbara Hepworth, Forbert has boldly abandoned the cakes’ square shape, slicing them at teetering angles for a bold, architectural silhouette.

A year’s worth of well-designed and delicious cakes? It’s almost too good to be true.
