DVDs Le Corbusier Plans@Arch

In cooperation with the Fondation Le Corbusier and the Franco-Japanese publishing house Codex Images International – Birkh?user is marketing the plans of Le Corbusier documented on a series of DVDs.

Le Corbusier left a legacy of 35.000 plans, sketches and studies for more than 300 projects which are archived by the Fondation Le Corbusier in Paris. Codex Images International undertook the digitalising of the foundation’s entire corpus of documents in a three year process. The first part, with Le Corbusier’s works from the period 1905 -1930, is now available, on the fortieth anniversary of his passing away in 1965.

All the buildings Le Corbusier planned are illustrated and supplemented with comments by leading international experts. The realised projects are richly illustrated with accompanying photographs.

The Banque Immobilliere de Paris began in the spring of 1922 to lay out roads and plots of houses in the Paris suburb of Auteuil.Corbusier proposed to exploit the centre of the block to be made accessible along a private road.

Le Corbusier introduced his “Villa La Rocca” in the Oeuvre Complete as the origin of the promenade architecturale and as the first mature expression of his architectural language. The astonishing sequence of spaces in this house for an art collector, contrasts with the tightly packed domestic interior for his brother Albert Jeanneret and family.

The digital archiving of the plans in colour makes the DVD set an invaluable tool for the research and understanding of the great architect’s extensive works. It safeguards the valuable legacy of Le Corbusier and makes it accessible to a worldwide audience. The illustrations of the plans and sketches captivate with their high technical quality and are entirely printable. Each DVD is accompanied by a brochure in English/French/Japanese.
